Recently, the world's first methanol dual-fuel converted ship "ECO UMANDE", which was completed by the shipping company of SUMEC Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as SUMEC), was successfully delivered at the Zhoushan Pacific Offshore Terminal.
The ECO UMANDE modification project was undertaken by SUMEC Marine, which worked with Zhoushan Pacific Offshore Engineering to complete the specific works. The ship is 148 meters long, 27.2 meters wide, has a speed of 14.5 knots, can carry 1,170TEU containers, flies the Liberian flag, and mainly sails on European feeder routes. After modification, the ship uses the world's first 5S50ME methanol dual-fuel main engine, equipped with shaft generators and energy-saving devices such as adjustable propellers and suspended flap rudders. It uses safe, convenient, powerful, and low-emission green methanol as fuel, has zero-carbon emission operation capabilities, and meets the third phase requirements of the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tier III standards.
During the modification process, SUMEC Marine fully utilized its inherent advantages, firmly grasped the source of technical design and equipment and material supply, and carried out effective full-process control; all parties involved in the project worked together to overcome difficulties and finally broke through the technical "bottlenecks" of stainless steel pipe construction and welding, and completed the modification and delivery within 90 days, achieving a "world first" in the field of ship modification general contracting. The smooth delivery of the project fully demonstrated SUMEC Marine's comprehensive strength in market development, technical design, resource integration and project management.
